CHENEY, Wash. (AP) Ty Gibson's 3-pointer with 3:58 remaining in overtime put Eastern Washington up for good and the Eagles got their first win of the season with an 87-80 victory over UMKC on Saturday.
Eastern Washington's Jesse Hunt buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end regulation and force the extra session, tying it at 69-all. Rob Whitfield made a pair of free throws with 10 seconds to go to give UMKC (0-5) a 69-66 lead.
Hunt posted a career-high 32 points on 12-of-16 shooting and tied a career high with 11 rebounds. Hunt's previous career high for points was 16 on three different occasions. Gibson finished with 16 points and Jack Perry scored 11.
Eastern Washington was coming off an 82-78 overtime loss against Green Bay the night before.
Xavier Bishop scored a career high 28 for the Kangaroos, Rob Whitfield scored 19, Jamel Allen, 12 and Jordan Giles, 10.
