Rantanen's 2 goals lead Avs over Flyers

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Mikko Rantanen had two goals, Matt Nieto and Gabriel Landeskog also scored, and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 on Monday night.

The Avalanche continued their early-season hot streak and finished 3-0-1 on their four-game road trip. Landeskog had a hat trick on the trip against New Jersey and clinched this one with his eighth goal of the season early in the third period.

Semyon Varlamov was solid in net and stopped 37 shots.

Predators leading NHL, having fun

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Nashville coach Peter Laviolette pulled out a bull's head to lighten the grind of the 82-game NHL regular season and challenge the Predators to get a couple of road wins.

Win both games in western Canada, and Laviolette would put on the bull's head while talking to reporters.

Lightning rip 'Hawks behind 33-shot 2nd

CHICAGO (AP) The Tampa Bay Lightning sure lived up to their name - and reputation as one of the NHL's quickest teams.

Brayden Point had a goal and two assists and the Lightning peppered the Chicago Blackhawks with 33 shots in a three-goal second period in a 6-3 victory Sunday night.

Sabres score 4 unanswered to down Ducks

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) The Buffalo Sabres' West Coast trip was in danger of slipping off the rails before they got right back on track with a Southern California sweep.

Rasmus Ristolainen scored a tiebreaking power-play goal early in the third period, and the Sabres rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night.

Gaudreau, Rittich lead Flames by Rangers

NEW YORK (AP) The Calgary Flames have had trouble winning in New York in recent seasons. Opportunistic scoring and stellar goaltending changed that on this trip.

Johnny Gaudreau and Garnet Hathaway each scored twice and backup goalie David Rittich made 44 saves as the Flames snapped a six-game losing streak at Madison Square Garden with a 4-1 victory over the Rangers on Sunday night.

Former Islanders owner Wang dies at 74

OYSTER BAY, N.Y. (AP) Charles Wang, a technology company founder and former owner of the New York Islanders hockey team, died Sunday. He was 74.

Wang died of lung cancer in Oyster Bay, New York, his attorney, John McEntee, said in an emailed statement.

Ducks retire Kariya's No. 9 jersey

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) The Anaheim Ducks raised Paul Kariya's No. 9 to the Honda Center rafters Sunday night, honoring the high-scoring forward who became a Hall of Famer.

The Ducks celebrated Kariya's career before their game against Buffalo with an emotional event ending with the hanging of Kariya's banner alongside the No. 8 of Teemu Selanne, Kariya's longtime linemate and close friend.

Nyquist's OT goal gives Wings first win

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) The Detroit Red Wings were finally able to feel good about themselves.

Gustav Nyquist scored 3:44 into overtime to lift the Red Wings to their first win of the season, 4-3 over the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.

TORONTO (AP) The Toronto Maple Leafs scored in bunches through seven games. The St. Louis Blues showed that goals don't always come that easily.

Ryan O'Reilly scored his first goal with St. Louis, and Jake Allen made 22 saves as the Blues beat the Maple Leafs 4-1 on Saturday night.

Horvat's OT goal gets Canucks by Bruins

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) Vancouver Canucks coach Travis Green wanted his two top forwards off the ice for a line change. Bo Horvat and Brock Boeser didn't listen, and Green was glad.

The pair teamed up to score the game-winning goal in overtime.
