Hamlin wins Toyota's 1st pole of season

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) Denny Hamlin has won the pole for Saturday night's race at Bristol Motor Speedway, a critical short-track showdown for drivers trying to qualify for the playoffs.

The Daytona 500 winner turned a lap at 129.230 mph in his Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing in Friday's qualifying session. His effort bumped Kyle Larson to second and Larson is not locked into the 16-driver playoff field with three races remaining to fill the final seven slots. Read More...

Reddick goes last to 1st in Xfinity win

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) Tyler Reddick drove from last to first and won the Xfinity Series race Friday night at Bristol Motor Speedway after leader Justin Allgaier hit the wall late.

Reddick, the Xfinity Series points leader and defending series champion, had to start last in the field because his car failed inspection four times before the race. His crew chief was ejected, Reddick wasn't allowed to post a qualifying time, and he had to serve a pass-thru penalty at the start of the race. Read More...

Moffitt wins Trucks playoff opener

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) Brett Moffitt pulled away on a restart with three laps to go and won the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series' playoff opener Thursday night at Bristol Motor Speedway to earn a spot in the Round of 6.

Moffitt finished 0.743 seconds ahead of 17-year-old Chandler Smith for his 10th series victory and first at Bristol. The top seed and defending series champion won the pole and led 65 laps on the 0.533 oval. Read More...

DiBenedetto out at Leavine after season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Matt DiBenedetto has been told by Leavine Family Racing he will not be brought back for a second season with the NASCAR team in 2020.

DiBenedetto called it "devastating news" in Thursday social media posts. He's enjoying the best season of his career while driving the No. 95 Toyota and is ranked a career-best 23rd in points. He has four top top-10 finishes in the past eight races. Read More...

Ragan to be part-time driver in 2020

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Veteran NASCAR driver David Ragan plans to scale back his racing schedule starting next season.

Ragan said Wednesday in a statement from Front Row Motorsports that he will race on a part-time basis in 2020 in NASCAR and other series. The 33-year-old Ragan cited his desire to spend more time with his wife and two daughters in walking away from the 38-race, full-time job as a NASCAR driver. Read More...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) This was supposed to be the breakout year for Ross Chastain, whose hard work caught the eye of a sponsor who promised to fund the eighth-generation watermelon farmer in the best ride of his career.
